Free POS Software in Pakistan: What Is Really Free and What Is Not?

If you run a shop, cafe or restaurant in Pakistan, you have probably searched for "free POS software" at least once. It makes sense. A new business has many costs, and software should not be one of them.

But the word "free" can mean very different things. Some free options are genuinely useful. Others cost you more later, in time, lost data or surprise charges. This guide explains what is really free, what is not, and how to choose without regrets.

The 4 kinds of "free" you will see

1. A free plan

Some vendors offer a basic plan that stays free forever, usually with limits. The limits might be a small number of products, one user, no reports, or no support.

Good for: testing the idea of a POS in a very small business. Watch out for: limits that force you to upgrade just when your business starts growing.

2. A free trial

You can use the full product for a fixed time, such as a month, before you pay. This is not a free product, but it is the best way to test a real one.

Good for: checking whether the software fits your daily work with your own products and staff. Watch out for: trials that ask for a credit card up front, or that renew automatically without a clear reminder.

3. Free software with paid extras

The base software costs nothing, but things you actually need are paid: setup, training, support, extra users, reports, or integrations.

Good for: people with technical skills who can set things up themselves. Watch out for: adding up the extras. The total can end up higher than a normal monthly plan.

4. Pirated or "cracked" software

Software shared for free that is normally paid. We strongly advise against this. It may contain malware, it has no updates or support, and your sales data may not be safe. For a business, the risk is far bigger than the saving.

Hidden costs to check before you call anything "free"

Ask these questions about any POS, free or paid:

  • Setup: Is setup included, or is there a one-time charge?
  • Support: If something breaks during a busy hour, who helps you, and is it free?
  • Users: How many cashiers or staff accounts are included?
  • Data: Can you export your sales and customer data if you leave?
  • Updates: Are updates included or charged separately?
  • Compliance: Is FBR integration included, or sold as an add-on?
  • Hardware: Will it work with the printer and barcode scanner you already own?

If a vendor cannot answer these clearly, that is a warning sign.

Is free POS software enough for a Pakistani business?

It depends on what you sell and how you work.

A very small shop that only needs simple billing may start with a limited free option. But as soon as you need stock tracking, customer credit (udhaar) records, daily cashier summaries, or tax reporting, a limited free tool starts to get in the way.

Restaurants usually outgrow simple tools even faster, because they need table management, kitchen orders and delivery handling. We covered this in our restaurant POS buyer's checklist.

A better way to think about it: total cost, not price

Instead of asking "Is it free?", ask "What will it cost me over one year, including my time?"

Think about:

  • The monthly or one-time price
  • Setup and training time
  • The cost of mistakes (wrong stock counts, missed sales records)
  • The cost of switching later, when your data is stuck in one system

A system that saves you an hour every day, or catches a stock problem early, can pay for itself quickly.

What does Amanat POS offer?

Amanat POS is not a permanently free product. It is a paid monthly subscription with a free first month on every edition, and no credit card is required to start.

  • Retail Edition: Rs. 4,999 per month
  • Wholesale Edition: Rs. 4,999 per month
  • Restaurant Edition: Rs. 5,999 per month
  • Cloud Kitchen Edition: Rs. 5,999 per month

Each subscription covers one business location. Essential features are included in each edition, and FBR invoice integration is included, so you do not need to buy it separately. You can learn more about it on our FBR compliance page.

For shops and grocery stores, see our Retail Edition. You can see all editions and their prices on the pricing page.

How to test any POS in one week

Whether you pick Amanat POS or another system, use the trial like this:

  1. Day 1: Add 20 to 30 of your real products.
  2. Day 2: Make a few test sales, including a return and a held bill.
  3. Day 3: Let your cashier use it without your help.
  4. Day 4: Check the daily summary and stock numbers against reality.
  5. Day 5: Test the printer and barcode scanner.
  6. Day 6 to 7: Contact support with a real question and see how fast they reply.

After a week, you will know much more than any feature list can tell you.

Quick summary

  • "Free" can mean a free plan, a free trial, free software with paid extras, or pirated software. They are very different.
  • Avoid pirated software. The risk is not worth it.
  • Check setup, support, users, data export, updates and FBR integration before you commit.
  • Compare total cost over a year, not only the headline price.
  • Use a free trial with your own products and staff.
